Get to Know Me Tag, 2.0

Happy March! We’re still buried in snow and ice, but I crossed a herd of deer right outside my office this morning. That’s gotta be auspicious, right?

And welcome back to the blog! I totally have a bunch of posts all lined up and ready to go, just like I said I would.

.

.

.

Totally.

Moving on!

Way back in August, Kenzie tagged me for the writerly Get to Know Me Tag. Then, nearly a month ago, the lovely Megan over at Painting the Pages tagged me for the same tag! Go check out her blog and give her a shout! She’s got cool excerpts and posts on first drafts and, of course, tagging games. (Plus anyone who likes van Gogh’s The Starry Night is A+.)

Some of the answers here will be nearly identical to what I answered back in August, but such is the nature of things. And it saves you from going back to that old post, right?

Of course right.

Let’s go!

Tag rules:

  • Link back to the person who created the tag (Savannah, another awesome writer with a gorgeous blog I definitely need to check out)
  • Thank the person who tagged you (Megan! Of course I’ll do the tag! I love tags, and thank you for tagging me!)
  • Share the tag graphic
  • Tag eleven bloggers (*cracks knuckles*)

VITAL STATS AND APPEARANCE

Name: Phoebe

Nickname: Pheebs? *shrugs* I never really get nicknames.

Birthday: March 15!!! I’m gonna be OLD.

Hair color/length: My usual mousy brown, and it’s finally past the sits-on-my-shoulders-like-an-angry-ferret length.

Eye color:  Gr…ay..? Ish.

Braces/piercing/tattoos:  Just ear piercings. I’ve considered getting a single small tattoo with a book quote, but *shrugs again*

Righty or lefty: Righty. All attempts to become ambidextrous by force have failed.

Ethnicity: After Dad took that DNA test… 99.9% English/Welsh/West European. We did find some Native American back in the American Civil War era, but it’s not quite confirmed. Mom’s side is more of the same. #whiteasacracker

FIRSTS

First novel written:  One about princesses who were all named after precious stones. #clever

First novel completed:  That One We Don’t Speak Of (Dad promises it isn’t as bad as I make it out to be)

Award for writing:  A sticker?

First publication: Nothing but Wattpad and Neopets. Wait. Neopets didn’t publish me….

Conferences:  I’ve looked at the Realm Makers Conference. I don’t know if I could make it this year but maybe next year!

Query/pitch: Soar was the first book I queried/am querying.

FAVORITES

Novel (that you wrote):  It comes and goes. Currently I happen to think Dark and Deep is absolute brilliance….

Genre: Fantasy. I’m hoping to branch into sci-fi-fantasy soon….

Author:  Recently, Neal Shusterman. This man is a master at building: suspense, worlds, plot threads, all of it. He knows how to write a quietly horrifying book and make you keep reading it.

Writing music: Always the OSTs. Always. Lately I like songs with a chorus of voices that hum, chant wordlessly, or do one of those awesome swelling harmony things. I want more of those.

Time to write: Early morning if I can stir myself to write.

Writing snack/drink: Tea, obviously.

Movie: Um, HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON THREE. I need to talk about this. I am…not ok.

Writing memory: Recently, watching a beta reader get emotionally destroyed IN REAL TIME while reading my MS. All the evil cackling.

Childhood book:  Always The Secret Garden.

CURRENTLY

Writing: Um…nothing. I am officially not writing anything. That’s a long story….

Listening to: My coworkers chatting. *cough*

Watching:  Mom and Dad are into Madame Secretary and Mom and I seem to be simultaneously pretending to be interested in The Umbrella Academy because we both think the other person cares.

Learning: About octopus!

FUTURE

Want to be published: Still, yes. Always yes.

Indie or traditional:  I’ve considered indie for Soar because I’m happy with how the story ended up and I have readers who want copies and I don’t know that I could stand to take it further (which sounds like a cop-out, but I’m tired, guys, and this story is already perfect to me). Traditional for the long-term is a goal. I would love to see my space witch and her telepathic star whale on shelves one day….

Wildest goal: For a reader to get a tattoo based on one of my books.

TAG! YOU’RE IT!

Oooh, look! A tag Kenzie didn’t get to first and steal all of our mutuals for tagging! I might actually come close to 11 people…. (Gonna steal ’em all, Kenzie! Mwahahahaha!!!)

Also, I know some of you have already done this tag, so don’t fret if you don’t want to do it again.

Kenzie

Remi

Jethan

Ruby

Penny (and I have your tag queued up!)

Felicity

Gail

Kate

Ok! So I got eight people! (If anyone else ’round here ever wants to be tagged, let me know! I’d love to share!)

  1. GASP. YOU DID A TAG BEFORE ME. HOW DARE YOU. YOU HAVE BROKEN MY STREAK. 😂😂😂 I mean, I just barely remember doing this tag last year, so YES I am going to do it again!!! Thank you so much for tagging me!!

As for nicknames, I definitely call you Pheebs. It just stuck? And also I love nicknames, so. AND YOUR HAIR IS NOT MOUSY BROWN. It is a beautiful chestnut and I shall stand by that till the day I die.

I’ve never really thought about getting a tattoo, but WHOA. A smol little book quote would be AMAZING! Not that I’d do it because tattoos terrify me, but now I can’t help but wonder what quote I would get… Probably something from Alive in Wonderland??? OOOOOOH. I would get the Jabberwocky poem on my forearm. That’s what I would do.

Award for writing: A sticker? << DEAD! 😂😂😂

I seriously need to read some of Neal Shusterman's work. Except he wrote a book called Everlost and I will never be able to forgive him for that… Scythe looks wonderful, though. I'm gonna have to read that.

Writing memory: Recently, watching a beta reader get emotionally destroyed IN REAL TIME while reading my MS. All the evil cackling. << I THINK I KNOW WHAT THIS IS. 😂😭 How dare you still laugh at my pain….

Also the next time we meet up you are going to have to shower how to make a cup of tea, because CLEARLY I am doing it wrong…

As always, this post was wonderful, Phoebe! Thank you again so much for the tag!! I'm gonna do this soon!

    1. I DID! And it made me super happy, because it’s a first, lol.

It is kind of catchy. I have a grand total of three real-life nicknames and I only like one of them. The others can be labeled as desperate attempts to make nicknames out of a name that isn’t suited to it.

And unfortunately it is kind of mousy-brown. Dyed, it can be chestnut, but naturally it’s a very middling color. It’s ok.

Right??? And same: actually getting a tattoo is a terrifying prospect. I’m in love with several Chronicles of Narnia quotes, and I have all these grand ideas, but I doubt I’ll ever actually follow through. Alice in Wonderland is perfect for you. If nothing else, you need this stanza:

One, two! One, two! And through and through
      The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!
He left it dead, and with its head
      He went galumphing back.

Wait. He wrote a book titled “Everlost”??? How did I miss this??

I’m still cackling. I will ALWAYS be cackling.

See, the thing with tea is that it’s very psychological. If you don’t set out to enjoy it, you probably won’t. But I feel like you might enjoy a good latte or maybe some bubble tea….

      Yay! I await your answers!

      1. I’m very disappointed in myself, to be honest… 😂

Yeaaaah… I’m not really sure how to make a nickname for your real name? It doesn’t really have a nickname form, and this IS BOTHERING ME BECAUSE I LOVE NICKNAMES ASDFGHJKL.

Huh. I thought it was chestnut. WELL EITHER WAY IT’S BEAUTIFUL, SO THERE. 😂

Oooooh… See I still need to read Narnia, so I don’t know a lot of quotes… Which ones do you like???
AND OH MY WORD. I THINK THAT WAS THE EXACT STANZA I WAS THINKING OF. I don’t know the poem by heart (yet) but I knew there was something about galumphing that I absolutely love, and snicker-snack is my favorite sound in the world. I don’t know how you knew this… 😂😂

        HOW DARE YOU.

I just realized I said “shower how to”…. That is not what I meant. XD And that is a very good point about the psychological thing, but I have tried MULTIPLE teas while desperately hoping I will like it. I just…don’t. XD OOH. OKAY SO I DID HAVE A CINNAMON LATTE ONCE AND IT WAS DELICIOUS. I don’t know how to replicate it, though..

  2. So I’m finding people to tag for this, and I just realized . . . you literally stole them all. You said you were going to steal them all, and you STOLE. THEM. ALL.

I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. XD
